• Additional permits and other compliance requirements must be obtained 7 days before the start of event rentals.

The TUP process for Temporary Use Permits is reviewed by Planning on a minimum 30-day cycle. The processing time for related permits, such as Encroachment Permits, Utilities Permits, and Building Permits, can take 6 to 12 months or longer. 

Special Event permits for events held at California State Parks must be received by the park at least 30 days before the event. If your event is held at Carpinteria State Beach, venue reservations are now available up to 6 months in advance. The park will not accept requests to hold an event more than 6 months in advance. Please also note that Carpinteria State Beach permits weddings only between Labor Day and Memorial Day; weddings are not permitted during the busy summer months. 3. 9 to 12 months out: Research permit requirements for your chosen venue and event format. If you’re holding an event that will involve touching any City space or taking place at a State Park location, start obtaining the necessary permits before finalizing the other parts of your event.
4. 6 to 9 months out: Contract catering, florals, tent/equipment rentals, special lighting, entertainment, and photographers. Since most venues book their summer events on a first-come, first-served basis from the very top down (the most popular/highest-end vendors), you may find that you are limited to lower-end alternatives.
5. 6 to 9 months out: Book hotel rooms for out-of-town guests and inform them of the reservation window and the final reservation deadline.
6. 4 to 6 months out: Finalize run-of-show and production schedule. Finalize vendor communication plan. If a corporate event, finalize all speaker/presenter information.
7. 60 to 90 days before your event date: Verify that all permit applications have been processed and are complete. At this stage in your wedding planning timeline, you should finalize your guest list and confirm attendance from any guests who have not responded, as well as from all guests who have already indicated their attendance. Get final headcounts for all vendors and for your own event.
8. 30 days out: Collect and submit all remaining event fees to the City. Confirm your load-in schedule and review your parking options for your guests and vendors. Coordinate all remaining day-of details with your vendors.
9. 7 days out: Review and finalize all remaining paperwork (i.e., payment of event fees to the City). Perform a final walk-through of the venue with the primary contact and the rest of the coordination team.
10. 48 to 72 hours out: Make sure you have completed and submitted all remaining compliance documentation for the event. Review the run-of-show, production schedule, and vendor communication plan with your venue and event coordination team, and do a final walk-through of the venue.
